Summary

Ciclosporin is a lipophilic cyclic endecapeptide that was isolated from the soil fungus Tolypocladium infatum in the 1970s [1]. The initial formulation of ciclosporin (Sandimmun®) was approved in 1983 for the prevention of acute allograft rejection in organ transplants. The microemulsion formulation (Neoral®), with improved bioavailability, was approved in 1997 for the treatment of psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
